Darts warm-up exercises.
Warming up is as important in darts as it is in any other sport. You need to get your eye in before every game otherwise your playing will lack consistency. It’s all very well being able to double out most of the time but you want to do it every time, right?
So in this article we’re going to discuss three of the best warm-ups/practice games you can use to improve your game and focus you towards winning matches.
Practice game 121
121 practice game is one of the best exercises you can regularly do to improve your game. It’s so good that the PDC Tour players tend to play it as they practice and warm-up before matches.
This is a very simple game with simple rules:
The aim of the game is to complete a series of finishes that require over three darts. In fact you want to try and complete all of the possible over three dart finishes in ascending order from 121 to 170. The premise is that you get nine darts to checkout with. So you have to get out in 9 darts or less for 121 then 122 etc etc. But here’s the kicker, if you fail then you have to go back to 121 and start over again. This exercise is incredibly hard but will improve your game drastically if you keep at it.
Around the board in doubles
Around the board in doubles is another exercise that is going to improve your game ten-fold. It is as simple as it sounds and a variation of the popular game around the clock. You simply have to hit each double from 1-20 followed by the bull. The idea is to set yourself a limit on the number of rounds you can have to hit all the doubles. So initially say 3 rounds/ double so you would have 198 darts to hit every double and the bull. Once you have accomplished this try and lessen your throws further and further until you are around 1 round/ double or 63 darts. Then try it with trebles.
Bull double variation
This is the same basic game as around the board in doubles except this time you have to hit each double followed by the bull. So double 1, bull, double 2 bull etc etc. This will focus you on hitting those bulls as well as vastly, and quickly, improving your doubles game.
